Bude, Cornwall, England - We're not in Noosa anymore!
Hi Ya! - Thursday, 28th July, 2011
Greetings from the Motherland. I thought it'd be a while between posts, but never did I think a month would pass by without sharing some fotos with you. Sorry to new subscribers who've been waiting for an email to show up, probably questioning the existence of fiN and now no doubt knowing my professionalism! I've been adjusting to life in the northern hemisphere, which has consisted of spending the past 4 weeks living in a van, whilst volunteering on the English summer festival circuit. This hasn't allowed for much beach time, nor decent internet connection, though it has allowed me to direct my camera in a new direction, photographing the unusual and interesting music festival fans. In my next post I'll give you a link with what I'm up to there.
For those thinking of flying across seven seas to the land of our colonizers I can promise you won't be disappointed, I've always been quite defensive when tourists say we don't have any proper history in Australia, and I'll be quick to point out the at least 40 000 years of our indigenous peoples. But due to our governing and the obvious decimation of this culture in the past 200+ years I understand how people find it difficult to relate, and being of Anglo decent I've found it truly fascinating to drive through towns where the Romans once stood, and to drink in pubs that workmen lay stones 200 years before the Aborigines saw the first pale skins of the English. One thing I didn't expect was how much of England comes under agricultural land, in less than an hour from London your constant companion is the endless farms, criss crossed by living hedges and rock walls, with narrow roads guiding you into quaint little towns that have you waiting for a horse-drawn cart to be coming around the next corner. The experience is like being in an open museum. As for wilderness, well I haven't seen anything of that and I'm not expecting too much until I get up into Scotland, but I've hit the coast twice around Cornwall in the towns of Bude and Newquay. Unfortunately there has been no waves and most days I didn't see the sun, but I must say when you get a sunny day it is pretty beautiful.
Well I'd be surprised if you've read this far, so I'll sign off now and I'll touch base in a couple of days with images from Noosa and the people of Pommie land.
Later,
Keith
